WSST
Warm Sea Surface Temperature (WSST) refers to long-term warming and cooling trends in the Atlantic Ocean that have been shown to affect hurricane activity, with increased activity occurring during warming trends.
The Verisk Hurricane Model for the U.S. offers an alternative WSST catalog in addition to the standard catalog in order to offer multiple credible views of risk. Like the standard catalog, the WSST catalog is a long-term and fully probabilistic view of hurricane risk. The standard catalog is derived based on all years of hurricane activity since 1900, while the WSST catalog is derived, or conditioned, on those years since 1900 with anomalously warm sea surface temperatures.
