Verisk Synergy Studio uses the following procedure to geocode locations in these countries:

  1. Area code formatting

Verisk Synergy Studio checks the provided location data to see if the input data matches the expected country-specific code formatting rules. If Verisk Synergy Studio cannot fit the provided location data to the expected code formats, then Verisk Synergy Studio considers this input data as names instead of codes.

  2. Centroid checking

Verisk Synergy Studio compares the provided geocode to the current centroid of the highest-resolution provided area code.

  3. Reverse geocoding

Verisk Synergy Studio fits the provided geocode spatially to the boundary data to determine the boundary within which the geocode falls and back fills the related codes and names.

Note: Reverse geocoding is the process of looking up geographic information based on a given input geocode.
  4. (Forward) geocoding

Verisk Synergy Studio finds the best, unique match geography using the provided area information and assigns the related centroid.

Note: Forward geocoding is the process of finding a latitude and longitude coordinate pair based on provided geographic input information (CRESTA, area, subarea, etc.).
  5. Geography returned

Verisk Synergy Studio returns the matched geography information for the location.
