Specifying location information

Before importing exposure data into Verisk Synergy Studio, you must specify location information for each of your exposures.

Verisk Synergy Studio supports one or more location information schemes for each supported country. For each exposure, you choose the desired location information scheme and then supply the corresponding location information.

Import exposure data into Verisk Synergy Studio using comma-separated values (CSV) files by selecting Actions > Data Management > Import in the upper right corner of the All Exposure Views pane.

When creating the CSV files to contain the exposures that you want to import, choose the desired location information scheme for each exposure and then add the country, CRESTA, area, subarea, postal area, subarea 2, city, address, and/or geocode1.

Note:
  • To omit a location field for an exposure, leave this field blank. do not specify 0 or X as a placeholder for this field.
  • When managing CSV files in Excel, set the CRESTACode column format to text instead of numeric so that CRESTA codes with trailing zeroes are retained. For example, with a column format of text, the number 4.10 remains 4.10, instead of being incorrectly changed to 4.1.

If you supply country, CRESTA, area, subarea, postal area, and/or subarea 2 data, Verisk Synergy Studio interprets this data and provides the geocode of the appropriate centroid, based on the resolution level of the data that you have included.

The remainder of this document describes the types of location information needed and the level of resolution that you can achieve for each of the various location information schemes for each of the countries that Verisk Synergy Studio supports.

1 You can include a geocode (that is, a latitude/longitude pair) for an exposure directly in your import data. Alternately, if you provide street-level data for United States locations, the Verisk Synergy Studio geocoder produces the corresponding latitude/longitude combinations.
