Supplying non-street-level location data

Verisk Synergy Studio uses its area information database to match location data that you input at a specific geocode match level.

This match occurs when you supply country, CRESTA, area, subarea, subarea 2, and/or postal information. The match level determines which geocode centroid Verisk Synergy Studio assigns to each set of location information that you supply. The non-street level geocode centroids are derived from the Verisk Industry Exposure Database and boundary data. The stated geocode match level can help you to understand why Verisk Synergy Studio has assigned a particular centroid geocode to a set of location data that you have entered.

Note: In some cases, the minimum resolution requirements of a model make it necessary for Verisk Synergy Studio to augment (that is, "forward fill" and/or "back fill") the location data that you have supplied for exposures in order to increase the resolution level of the corresponding location data and to support the modeling requirements.

Verisk Synergy Studio stores the geocode match level in the GeoMatchLevelCode field for each location record in the tLocation table within the VeriskExposure database.

The centroid for a given area can be generated using any of the following methods, depending on the country, resolution, available data, and model requirements:
  • Exposure-weighted centroids: Verisk Synergy Studio uses the Verisk Industry Exposure Database for a given country and the related building exposure distributions adjust the centroid based on the geographic distribution of the exposures in the Industry Exposure Database.
  • Population-weighted centroids: Verisk Synergy Studio adjusts the centroid based on the geographic distribution of census populations.
  • Geographic centroids: Verisk Synergy Studio uses boundary data to generate a geographic centroid for a given area.
