Introduction to Verisk Synergy Studio geocoding

Verisk Synergy Studio uses its extensive geography database to geocode exposure locations, that is, to pinpoint these locations using latitude, longitude pairs.

Verisk Synergy Studio enables insurance underwriters, catastrophe risk managers, managing general agents, claims managers, and others to assess the catastrophe loss potential of individual risks, policies, and portfolios. To perform loss analyses, you must first add exposure data to Verisk Synergy Studio, and Verisk Synergy Studio must identify the locations of these exposures using geocodes. The exposure data that you have available to import into Verisk Synergy Studio – and that Verisk Synergy Studio can use in the geocoding process – may include locations in a variety of countries, and your location data for exposures may vary with respect to the levels of resolution, completeness, and accuracy.

This document describes the location information schemes for each country that Verisk Synergy Studio supports, GeoPin geocoding, and the Premium International Geocoding feature.-->

Location information schemes

These schemes provide various options for importing exposure data into Verisk Synergy Studio for geocoding. For example, you may have province- or postal code-level location data for one exposure, while your location data for another exposure is limited to the corresponding CRESTA code. The resolution level of the data that you input combines with the location information scheme for each exposure to provide a specific level of geocoding resolution for your exposure data. This document describes how Verisk Synergy Studio processes and geocodes data for each location information scheme for each country.

Premium International Geocoding option

Verisk also offers a premium international geocoding feature. Premium international geocoding is an optional, licensed feature available in the Verisk Synergy Studio 2020 and later releases. The feature can enable the seamless integration of high-resolution geocoding in Verisk Synergy Studio. The premium international geocoding feature in Verisk Synergy Studio can provide address-specific (address point), street address interpolation, or street centroid resolution geocoding for over 140 modeled or non-modeled countries. For detailed information, refer to the "Premium Geocoding" appendix in this guide. Available geocoding resolutions include:

  • Address point geocoding, rooftop or parcel-level, for at least 57 countries.
  • Street address interpolation geocoding, which derive the estimated geocode location using street segment interpolation, for about 90 countries.
  • Street centroid geocoding for about 36 additional countries.
