Location basic building fields

Validation rules related to the basic building characteristics.

Verisk Synergy Studio's individual risk methodology follows a structured, logical approach that groups building characteristics (SRCs) that are supported in a specific model. Refer to the "Secondary Risk Characteristics Matrix"—https://risksolutions.verisk.com/models/landing-pages/secondary-risk-characteristics/—which is available on the landing page on the Client Portal (login required)—that serves as a guide to the SRCs supported by each model. The landing page includes peril-specific SRC documentation. Users may also refer to a model's detailed description (available on the Client Portal).

Field Description Validation rules Default value
Construction Code Type Construction codes that indicate the construction code type for a building. building and appurtenant (other) structures:
  • Verisk Synergy Studio codes
  • ATC codes (ATC)
  • EURO codes (EURO)
  • ISO fire codes (ISO)
  • Japan building codes (JPBLDG)
  • RMS codes (RMS)
  • RMS industrial facility codes (RMSIND)
  • User codes (USER)

We always recommends translating non-Verisk Synergy Studio codes to Verisk Synergy Studio codes wherever possible before importing your data.

Note: If you select a non-Verisk Synergy Studio construction code type and specify non-Verisk Synergy Studio construction codes in the Construction Building and Construction Other Structures fields, the application displays the non-Verisk Synergy Studio construction codes in these fields. The application also maps these codes to Verisk Synergy Studio construction codes. The application stores both the non-Verisk Synergy Studio (user-supplied) construction codes that you have specified and the corresponding Verisk Synergy Studio construction codes in the exposure database into which you have imported or added your locations.
  • Required if you are creating a new record or editing an existing record
Verisk Synergy Studio codes
Construction Building Construction code for a building.

The construction code type determines which codes are valid for this field.

  • Required if you are creating a new record or editing an existing record
  • Defaults to a value in the user interface, if the construction code type is AIR codes (AIR)
100 - Unknown
Construction Other Structures Construction code for any appurtenant structures.

The construction code type determines which codes are valid for this field.

  • Optional
100 - Unknown
Occupancy Code Type Occupancy codes that indicate the occupancy code type for a building:
  • AIR (AIR) codes
  • ATC codes (ATC)
  • ISO BOP codes (Business Owners codes) (ISB)
  • ISO COMFAL codes (ISC) (ISO Commercial, Fire, and Allied Lines codes)
  • ISO codes (ISO)
  • RMS EURO-FR codes (REF)
  • RMS EURO codes (REU)
  • RMS JPOCC codes (RJP)
  • RMS IND (industrial) codes (RMI)
  • RMS codes (RMS)
  • RMS WCOCC codes (RWC)
  • SIC codes (SIC)
Note: If you select a non-Verisk Synergy Studio occupancy code type and specify a non-Verisk Synergy Studio occupancy code in the Occupancy Code field, the application displays the non-Verisk Synergy Studio occupancy codes in these fields. The application also maps these codes to Verisk Synergy Studio occupancy codes. Verisk Synergy Studio stores both the non-Verisk Synergy Studio (user-supplied) occupancy codes that you have specified and the corresponding Verisk Synergy Studio occupancy codes in the exposure database into which you have imported or added your locations.
  • Required if you are creating a new record or editing an existing record
Verisk Synergy Studio codes
Occupancy Code Occupancy code for a building.

The occupancy code type determines which codes are valid for this field.

  • Required if you are creating a new record or editing an existing record
  • Defaults to a value in the user interface if the occupancy code type is AIR codes (AIR)
311 - General commercial
IsTenant Indicates whether the location is covered by a tenant policy:
  • Yes (primary location)
  • No (not primary locatin)
No
Year Built Year the structure was built or underwent a major upgrade.

The age of a building provides a good indication of the building codes that are in effect for the building.

When the year built of the structure is not known, the application calculates an unknown year built damage function by applying an exposure-weighted distribution to the corresponding damage functions for each year built.

The application uses this field for earthquake and hurricane analysis.

  • Must be 0 or between 1000 and the currrent year. For example, if the current year is 2017, you can enter a value between 0 and 2017, inclusive.
[NULL]
Stories Number of stories in the structure.

For pleasure boats, this field represents the boat length in feet. Enter a value (in feet) within one of the following categories to specify the length of the pleasure boat:

  • Small (up to 26 feet)
  • Medium (26-50 feet)
  • Large (over 50 feet)

If the pleasure boat length is unknown, enter 0.

  • Must be between 0- 999, inclusive. For half-stories, we recommend that you round up to the next integer before importing. This is because the application only supports modeling of integers for the Stories field.
[NULL]
ISO Construction Code The ISO construction class for a building.

See "ISO Fire Codes" and "ISO Earthquake Codes" in the Help provided for non-Verisk Synergy Studio construction class codes in your Verisk Synergy Studio Client.

  • Optional
ISO Occupancy Code The ISO occupancy code for the location.

See "ISO Commercial, Fire, and Allied Lines (COMFAL) Codes" in the Help provided for non-Verisk Synergy Studio occupancy class codes in your Verisk Synergy Studio client.

  • Optional
Building Value per Gross Area Building value per gross area for this location.

The building value per gross area calculation for each location is the replacement value building divided by the gross area.

  • Read only
Territory User-defined territory for this location for reporting purposes.
  • Optional
  • Can contain up to 60 characters
  • Can contain hyphens and underscores
Building Height Total height of the structure. This field is not used for loss calculations; it is used only for informational purposes.

The building height units determine the unit in which you express the value for this field.

  • Optional
  • Must be a positive value
Building Height Units Code for the unit of measurement used to express the building's height:
  • Feet (FT)
  • Meters (M)
  • Optional
