Location surrounding detail fields

Validation rules for fields related to surrounding details for a location.

Verisk Synergy Studio's individual risk methodology follows a structured, logical approach that groups building characteristics (SRCs) that are supported in a specific model. Refer to the "Secondary Risk Characteristics Matrix"—https://risksolutions.verisk.com/models/landing-pages/secondary-risk-characteristics/—which is available on the landing page on the Client Portal (login required)—that serves as a guide to the SRCs supported by each model. The landing page includes peril-specific SRC documentation. Users may also refer to a model's detailed description (available on the Client Portal).

Use the following links to get information about Location Building Detail fields, such as floor of interest and floor area, and about Location Connection Detail fields, such as Foundation Type.

The condition (or categorization) of the terrain surrounding a building:
  • Unknown/default (0)
  • Large city center (1) (type A)
  • Urban and suburban areas, wooded areas (2) (type B)
  • Open terrain with scattered obstructions (3) (type C)
  • Flat, unobstructed areas (4) (D)
  • Optional
  • Use this field in conjunction with the Adjacent Building Height field.
Unknown/default (0)
Adjacent Building Height
  • US ST
  • US TC
Average height of buildings that are adjacent to the building:
  • Unknown/default (0)
  • Average number of stories (<N>)
  • Optional
  • Use this field in conjunction with theFloor of Interest and Terrain Roughness fields.
Custom Flood Standard of Protection

  • MY/ID IF
  • SK TY
  • UK/ROI IF
  • US IF

Types of custom standards of protection for flood. A user-specified level of flood protection that overrides the company-defined level of protection during analyses:
  • H = Height (above the ground surface at the building location).
    • Enter the height in feet for Canada, Japan and Unted States models; in meters for Europe models.
    • "0" indicates that the basement at this location has been equipped with flood protection to a level that is equivalent to the elevation of the adjacent ground surface.
    • "-999" indicates that custom protection is not present.
  • Optional
  • Can be a numeric value between 0 and 30000, inclusive, or -999.
-999
Custom Flood SOP Type – Return Period
  • CEU IF
For CEU IF models, the type may be entered as a Return Period. Enter the value in years. The application will apply the corresponding return period protection to this location.
  • Optional
  • Models that use Custom Flood SOP but that do not use Custom Flood SOP Type only support H (Height) as the input. They do not support RP (Return Period).
Unknown
Custom Flood Zone
  • US IF
  • US TC
User-specified flood zones. Indicates the FEMA flood zones in which the building is located:
  • Unknown/default (0)
  • Zone 1/Zone A (1) - within the 100-year floodplain
  • Zone 2/Zone V (2) - coastal flood zone
  • Zone 3/Zone X (3) - area with no flood hazard map or outside the 500-year floodplain
  • Zone 4/Other Flood Zones (x500) (4) - beyond the 100-year floodplain and inside the 500-year floodplain
  • Optional

User-defined elevation; used to filter locations for detailed loss analysis. Elevation of the local ground surface at a building (in feet for Canada, Japan and U.S. models, and in meters for Europe).
  • -999 represents Unknown/default.
  • A value of other than -999 overrides the underlying modeled digital terrain (DTM) elevation.
  • Optional
Base Flood Elevation
  • CA IF
  • MY/ID IF
  • SK TY
  • UK/ROI IF
  • US IF
  • US TC
Possible measurement ranges used to define the elevation above sea level, for the base flood options
  • Enter in meters for Europe models, in feet for the Canada, Japan, and United States models.
  • -999 represents "Unknown/default". We recommend that you do not code this field as "0".
  • Optional
  • The BFE cannot be less than the local grade elevation, since both are measured with respect to NAVD88. If you set the BFE to a value that is less than the local grade elevation, the application assumes that the BFE is unknown.
  • The value that you set for the first floor height overrides the BFE.
Defensible Space
  • AU WF
  • US WF
The distance between exposures and combustible materials and other hazardeous materials. This space refers to a buffer zone around a physical structure or building or vegetation (forest) surrounded by other external sources.
  • Blank or -999 represents Unknown/default
