Area

An area is a geographic location. Areas are at a higher geographic resolution than subareas.

For the United States, AIR uses the AIR- FIPS scheme to classify areas and subareas. State are areas, while counties are subareas. For other countries, AIR uses the UNICEDE standard. For more information, see http://www.unicede.com.
