Importing Open Exposure Data .csv files

Use ImportExpress to import Open Exposure Data (OED) comma-separated values (.csv) files directly into Touchstone.

Before You Begin

Prepare the files for import. Refer to Preparing Open Exposure Data .csv import files.

For each file, define a mapping set that indicates what data is stored in each column. If you use a standard format for all your contract data, you can reuse the mapping sets for future imports.

Note: We recommend that the .csv files do not include: double or triple spaces between words, commas, letters with accents (such as Ã, Ë, é, â), or the following special characters: ?, ©, •, #, /, <, >, -, &, °, (, ), +, :, ;, ', !, *, £

Procedure

  1. On the global menu bar, click Import > Exposure > Open Exposure Data (OED).
The ImportExpress dialog box opens to the Import & Mapping Data tab.
  2. In the Import Type list, select Open Exposure Data (OED).
  3. In the Policy Type list, the only currently available type is Primary Property (in the Touchstone 2024 release).
  4. In the Mapping Set list, select a mapping set, import a mapping set, or create a new mapping set.
See Managing mapping sets for information about managing mapping sets.
  5. In the Accounts, Locations, Reins Info, and Reins Scope fields, browse to and select each import file you want to use.
The reinsurance files can include facultative and surplus share treaties in the reinsurance information (ReinsInfo) and reinsurance scope (ReinsScope) files.
When you start the import, Touchstone attempts to map the column headings in your data, such as AccNumber, to acceptable Touchstone fields, such as Contract ID. This function is called automapping.
  6. Click Edit Mappings to map fields in the source files that Touchstone did not recognize during the automapping process.
When you use an unfamiliar mapping set, we recommend that you view and confirm that all fields are mapped as expected. You can also set import defaults for accounts, locations, and reinsurance files. For information about field mapping, see Field Mapping window.
  7. Click Scan Mappings to ensure that all codes and values were mapped to acceptable Touchstone values.
For information about value mapping, see Value Mapping window.
  8. Set the destination for the imported data by specifying the database, exposure set, and (optional) exposure view for the data that you want to import.
  9. Select Flag for EEM if you want to flag the exposure views for EEM to pick up during data transmission.
  10. On the Options tab, configure the import options.
ImportExpress does not save the import options with the mapping set. The settings apply only to the current import job. However, the Remember Settings check box on the Options tab enables you to preserve your settings. See Options tab (.csv import files) for information on configuring the options.
  11. [Optional] Clear the Close on Import check box to keep the Import Project window open after you submit the import job.
  12. Click Import.

Next Steps

You can check the status of the import job and review logs in the Activity Monitor.

Note: To view logs in Touchstone, you must first configure Notepad or WordPad as the default application for opening text files on your computer.
