Touchstone Re service pack 13.3

This service pack supports analysis of Verisk's three updated U.S. catastrophe models, plus updated industry losses across the entire suite of U.S. catastrophe models for property.

This update allows users to generate industry loss estimates including the new demand surge behavior and include company loss files (CLFs) from the latest model updates so ILS investors and reinsurers can price and monitor U.S. portfolios using the latest Verisk view of risk while staying aligned with Verisk Synergy Studio

Model updates

  • New event catalogs for the U.S. tropical cyclone, winter storm, and inland flood models.
  • Updated industry loss files for all U.S. property perils- tropical cyclone/hurricane, winter storm, severe thunderstorm, earthquake, inland flood, and wildfire.

Supported workflows

The contents and scope of Touchstone Re v13.3 were designed for two common uses of Touchstone Re: analyzing CLFs and generating industry loss curves.

A new event set, World All Perils (10K Time Dep Hybrid - 2026 US Models) has been added which includes all of the model updates as described above. The rest of the Verisk region-peril catastrophe models are also in this event set, with the same vintages as Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Australia, in Touchstone Re v13.0.

For consistency of analysis between Touchstone Re and Verisk Synergy Studio, users will be able to import CLFs from Verisk Synergy Studio and analyze them using the new event set. With the updated catalogs for U.S. tropical cyclone, winter storm, and inland flood, results will exactly match the original detailed loss analysis from Verisk Synergy Studio and also reinsurance portfolio analysis in the new platform. Legacy CLFs and CLAs from recent Touchstone(Re) versions for these perils will continue to be supported using event mapping to update the view of risk to better align with the updated event catalogs.

This update also allows users access to the updated U.S. industry loss riles (ILS), which have been generated using the new Verisk U.S. industry exposure for 2025. Using Verisk's industry take-up rates or another set of user-specified market shares, the latest industry loss curves for all U.S. peril models can be generated by running analyses with the new event set. updated U.S. industry take-up rates are available for wind, flood, and fire.

Demand surge

To maintain a consistent view of risk for the updated models, all analyses with the new event set will be required to run with demand surge. The allows the new global demand surge methodology to apply to all industry loss curves for U.S. tropical cyclone, winter storm, and inland flood. However, any CLFs for these models that do not have demand surge already applied will not have demand surge added during analysis. CLFs for other region-peril models will continue to have demand surge applied during analysis with the new event set.

Industry Exposure Database for the U.S.

While all of the U.S. nat-cat peril model industry loss files have been updated to reflect the new U.S. industry exposure, the new industry exposure itself is not included in Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Australia, in Touchstone Re v13.3. The aggregate industry exposure database to database export feature will continue to export the 2022 vintage U.S. industry exposure, and any analyses based on sums insured or no. risks will also use the 2022 vintage to calculate the market share percentages. The premium industry exposure remains on the 2024 vintage.

AIREvents database

There are no updates to the AIREvents database. All AIREvents data still reflect Touchstone Re v13.0. Analyses using the new event set will not have any event info or event descriptions associated with their results.

Mapping events

Event mappings and supported loss file mappings have been updated for Touchstone Re 2025. (v13.3).

Other fixes

  • For the Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Australia, in Touchstone Re 13.0/13.1/13.2, CLFs from v12 and earlier that were analyzed using the updated event set were dropping losses for the first stochastic event. This is rectified in v13.3 so that all events in such CLFs will produce loss during analysis.
  • Copy Program: The New Program Name field will now be pre-filled with the original Program Name, so that the user can quickly add a suffix to the name before the copy.

IMPORTANT: The Touchstone Re 13.3 service pack includes 13.1 and 13.2 software changes, but not the Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Australia, in Touchstone Model Data package for 13.1. The model data installer package must be installed separately if you are installing on top of 13.0. The link for that package can be found on the AIR Download Manager. You can install the 13.3 service pack on top of Touchstone(Re) version of 13.0, 13.1, or 13.2.
