Verisk Extratropical Cyclone Model for Europe
The fully stochastic Verisk Extratropical Cyclone Model for Europe explicitly captures damage and loss associated with winds from large-scale windstorms in 22 European countries, as well as damage and loss associated with surge in all coastal areas of England and Wales.
This model makes extensive use of detailed data from historical storms. Since there is no common database of historical European extratropical cyclones, the model uses a physical model based on Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) in combination with detailed wind observations to establish a database of historical storms.
