Verisk Crop Hail Model for Canada
The Verisk Crop Hail Model for Canada is an event-based model designed for portfolio risk management that captures the effects of hail on wheat (spring and winter), barley, canola, corn, flax, oats, soybeans, lentils, peas, and potatoes in Canada.
Hail damage to additional crops is estimated statistically, on the basis of historical experience. The model leverages Verisk's all-events 10,000-year stochastic catalog (also used by the Verisk Crop Hail Model for the United States, the Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for the United States, and the Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Canada) to determine the location, track direction, length, and width of simulated hail outbreaks, along with maximum simulated hail diameter in the outbreak, within the model domain. The local intensity of each simulated hail event is represented by hail impact energy, derived from the maximum reported hail diameter.
