The Demand Surge catastrophe peril analysis option inflates loss results to reflect the increased cost of labor and materials following a major catastrophe. As the industry loss rises, so does the cost to repair and replace properties damaged in the event. The greater the industry loss is for an event, the greater the demand surge factor is that is used in the calculations.

The Demand Surge Options dialog box enables you to view the demand surge regions associated with the event set that you have selected for this analysis. In addition, this dialog box enables you to choose between the standard demand surge curve and a custom demand surge curve for each region for which an administrator has defined a custom demand surge curve.

The Demand Surge Options dialog box contains the following fields and buttons:

Description

Region

Displays each region associated with the event set that you have selected for this analysis.

Standard

Specifies whether Touchstone should use the standard demand surge curve for the corresponding region during this analysis. If an administrator has defined a custom demand surge curve for this region, you must select one of the following two check boxes:

• Select this check box to use the standard demand surge curve.

• Select the corresponding Custom check box to use a custom demand surge curve.

If there is no custom demand surge curve for this region, this Standard check box is selected and read only.

Custom

Specifies whether Touchstone should use a custom demand surge curve for the corresponding region during this analysis. If an administrator has defined a custom demand surge curve for this region, you must select one of the following two check boxes:

• Select this check box to use a custom demand surge curve.

• Select the corresponding Standard check box to use the standard demand surge curve.

Clearing the Custom check box for a region automatically selects the associated check box in the Standard column.

If there is no custom demand surge curve for this region, Touchstone does not display a check box in this field.

Countries

Displays a list of countries within each region associated with the event set that you have selected for this analysis.

Enables you to save your changes and close the Demand Surge Options dialog box.

Cancel

Enables you to close the Demand Surge Options dialog box without saving your changes.
