Notable Verisk models that impact the AIREvents and AIRHistorical databases are:
Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for the United States
As part of the model updates, we updated catalogs and event sets.
Stochastic catalog(s)
- We redefined baseline catalogs and expanded events:
- The baseline catalog includes significant loss events defined using both country-wide and state-specific loss criteria. The baseline catalog is the smaller of the two catalogs.
- The expanded events catalog includes all events from the baseline catalog and additional events that do not exceed the baseline loss thresholds but do meet the meteorological criteria defined for this model. This catalog is the larger of the two catalogs.
- We added the following new catalogs and regenerated events:

This release includes new user interface features, updates to Verisk Models, and enhancements to the application programming interfaces (APIs). To learn more about the extent of updates for this release, refer to the Touchstone and Touchstone Re 2024 Release Documentation page on the Client Portal.
Notable Verisk Models and updates to software that impacts the AIREvents and AIRHistorical databases are:
- We added a new classification as induced seismicity events to categorize a subset of events. The induced seismicity events are not caused by natural tectonic plate movement but rather from human activities such as hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”), building water dams, and shallow oil field operations. These updated source type classifications are reflected in the: AIREvents.TblModel50.database, loss dashboard screen, Event Loss Summary Table, and the Event Distribution CSV export for this model. There is no impact on losses from these labeling updates.
- We updated the Industry loss files for both the stochastic (10K) and historical catalogs for the Verisk Inland Flood Model. An updated views of industry insurable loss files for residential content line of business is available for this model.
Touchstone and Touchstone Re 2023 include new user interface features, Verisk Model updates, and enhancements to the application programming interface (API). To learn more about the extent of updates for this release, refer to the Touchstone and Touchstone Re 2023 Release Documentation page on the Client Portal.
Important Verisk Model and software updates that impacts the AIREvents and AIRHistorical databases are:
- We added support for two new models in the AIR Events and Historical databases: Verisk Earthquake Middle East Model (M50) and Verisk Inland Flood Model for Italy (M96).
- We removed event sets for the previous model versions of the older models to keep model file sizes manageable. Going forward, we will periodically clean up the model versions of the older models.
- We updated the catalog for the existing TblModel85 to reflect the updated Verisk Agriculture Model for China.
- The historical catalog for Verisk Hurricane Model for the United States has been updated to include three additional historical events: Hurricane Sally (2020), Hurricane Zeta (2020), and Hurricane Laura (2020) and one updated event, Hurricane Betsy (1965).
- The Verisk Pandemic Model has an updated Filovirus catalog to reflect the increased availability and uptake of vaccines, especially for Ebola, and a new vector-borne diseases catalog.

Touchstone and Touchstone Re 2022 include several updates to Verisk models, new user interface features, and enhancements to the public application programming interface (API). To learn more about the extent of updates for this release, refer to the
Touchstone and Touchstone Re 2022 Release Documentation page on the Client Portal. Important Verisk Model update that impacts the AIREvents and AIRHistorical databases are:
-
The split of Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for the U.S. and Canada (M20). We have split Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model (M20) for the United States and Canada model into two models: Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for the United States (M22) and Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Canada (M26). We have created a new catalog for Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for the United States and have updated the M20 catalog to M26, Verisk Severe Thunderstorm Model for Canada. Refer to the https://www.air-worldwide.com/models/landing-pages/Verisk-Severe-Thunderstorm-Model-for-the-United-States/ on the Client Portal for more information.
Highlights
The Model 22 catalog for the Severe Thunderstorm Model for the U.S:
- Contains the stochastic and historical catalogs.
- Includes a flag to differentiate catastrophic versus non-catastrophic events.
- Does not include the extreme disaster scenarios (EDS) as the Model does not support.
The Model 26 catalog for the Severe Thunderstorm Model for Canada contains:
- The stochastic events.
- A total of five EDS events in the AIRHistorical database.
We have implemented the following schema changes in the AIREvents and AIREventsHistorical databases to accommodate the changes described above in the Verisk models.
- Separated the Model 20 into two new model catalogs for individually capturing the U.S. and Canada exposures for the Severe Thunderstorm peril
- Created Model 22 catalog in the AIREvents database to account for the U.S. exposures
- Created Model 26 catalog in the AIREvents database to account for the Canada exposures
- Created brand new Model 22 and Model 26 catalogs in the AIREventsHistorical database
- Resequenced event identifiers in the Model 26 catalog from the previously available events in the Model 20 catalog
